The program will consist of notable works such as Faure’s “Dolly Suite, Op. 56 for Piano Four Hands” and Haydn’s “Piano Trio in D Major, Hob.XV: 24 Op.16”, which will be performed by several students in the Ip Piano Studio, such as Serena Wu, Yinfei Lang, and Finn Larsen. Solo vocal performances will also be performed by boy sopranos Charlie Kraman (“Pie Jesu” from Faure’s Requiem in D minor, Op. 48) and Joseph Hobbib (“Nel cor piu non mi sento” by Giovanni Paisiello).
Winnie Ip, owner and teacher of Ip Piano Studio, commented on her long association with Saint Paul’s Choir School and the great opportunity to perform at the stunning Shalin Liu Performance Center:
“Teaching at St. Paul's Choir School for the past ten years, I have realized SPCS has performed in many concert venues and many countries, but this is the first time SPCS is here today to sing at Shalin Liu Performance Center, and I hope every performer feels this is a privilege to perform here because this concert hall has a spectacular view and superb acoustics.”
Brandon Straub, Director of Music at Saint Paul’s Choir School, is excited about the opportunity to perform at this venue as well.
“We look forward to bringing a sampling of the best of what we do in sacred spaces to this concert in Rockport. It's also an opportunity to explore music we wouldn't necessarily offer in the context of worship. The boys and I are particularly excited to share 'Untraveled Worlds' by Paul Halley, which is based on a text from Alfred Lord Tennyson's 'Ulysses.'"
Straub went on to comment how he was inspired by the view the venue lends to its audience. Situated right on the Rockport coastline, audience members will witness the performers on stage with a glass wall that provides a clear view of the Massachusetts north coast. The natural backdrop emphasizes the wildness of the Atlantic and perfectly complements the Tennyson text from “Untraveled Worlds”.
“ 'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.”
-Alfred Lord Tennyson, Ulysses
